What is hosted PBX?

A Private Branch Exchange (PBX) is an internal phone network for a company, used to split calls between extensions for individuals and teams, and make call management easier. Traditional PBXs require significant on-site hardware to be installed, which locks you in to a single vendor and requires ongoing maintenance. A virtual or “hosted PBX” also helps manage communications within the company, but it’s both simpler and more flexible than traditional phone services.

Benefits of hosted PBX

  • Cloud Based: Because hosted PBX is stored and accessed through an Internet connection, it’s available anywhere from any device while using the same phone number and keeping access to all your data.
  • Reduced Complexity: It’s easy to set up, use, and manage without ongoing assistance from your IT department.
  • Lower Cost, More Savings: With no maintenance or upgrades needed and voice being bundled with data, your operating costs are significantly reduced.
  • Reliable and Scalable: Downtime is rare and repairs aren’t your problem, so you can count on the service while adding lines at will with no new infrastructure.
  • Ensures Business Continuity: All the critical hardware is stored in a remote and secure data center, meaning local failures won’t disrupt your business communications.
  • Disaster Recovery: Even in the case of a power outage, storm, fire, or earthquake, you can continue the flow of communication and recover all your data with ease.
